Opinião: Sonhos Malditos é o segundo conto que leio da Carina Rosa, e cada vez mais penso que é uma escritora a seguir. Este conto é um pouco diferente daqueles que ela costuma escrever, pois é de fantasia/sobrenatural – mas não é por isso que deixa de ser bom.
Foi uma lufada de ar fresco e só tive pena que acabasse tão depressa – e que não se soubesse mais sobre o início do conto.
Tanto Teresa como Henrique (seja em que versão for), são personagens interessantes que nos fazem querer saber mais sobre eles, talvez se tivesse sido desenvolvido um pouco mais nesse âmbito tivesse dado uma pontuação mais alta.
Como o conto, a crítica será pequenina pois não há muito mais a dizer. Foram páginas de entretenimento que me deixaram a querer mais.

Review: Sonhos Malditos is the second short story I’ve read by Carina Rosa. And every time I read something of hers I think that she is an author whose career I should (and will) follow. This particular short story is a bit different then her usual stories, because it deals with the supernatural/fantasy – but that doesn’t make it any less good then her other short stories.
It was a breath of fresh air and I was only sad that it ended so quickly – and maybe that we didn’t know a bit more about the beginning of the story.
Teresa and Henrique (whatever version of him) were very interesting characters that made us want to know more about themselves, maybe if the short story hadn’t been a short story (or at least not that short) I would have given this a higher score.
As the short story, this is a short review, because there’s not much more to say. It was an entertaining read, which left me wanting to know more and read more stories writing by this author.

Este livro sofreu bastante com o facto de que, de uma hora para a outra, o meu tempo disponível para leituras foi reduzido a quase nenhum. Ainda assim não conseguia parar de pensar nele e no que estava para vir.
Persephone's Orchard é uma espécide de retelling do mito do rapto da Persefone – do qual gostei imenso para a autora o desenvolveu pegando em aspectos do mito e construindo uma narrativa romântica, com sentido e, acima de tudo, aceitável.
Com Underworld's Daughter, o segundo livro da série The Chrysomelia Storie, nada disso acontece, uma vez que pouco ou nada segue a mitologia grega, mas Molly Ringle consegue criar uma estória cativante, interessante e cheia de magia e peripécias que nos agarra às personagens.
Eu tenho um “carinho” especial por Dioniso e quem me conhece sabe porquê, e achei interessante a forma como a autora liga Adónis com Dioniso, mas não gostei da Tabitha, a soul de Dioniso. Ela desenvolve-se e no final já parece que está a tornar-se numa imortal com pés e cabeça, mas no geral desiludiu-me e fiquei triste com isso. Em contrapartida, adorei Zoe aka Hekate, se bem que a distância da mitologia fez-me imensa confusão – e ainda faz, ainda estou à espera de ver as três faces de Hekate e, muito sinceramente, não me parece que isso seja algo que venha a ser abordado (espero eu estar errada). Sem dúvida, Hekate foi a minha personagem favorita deste livro e gostei muito dos momentos dedicados a esta personagem. (E cá para nós, que ninguém nos ouve, Hekate e Hermes muito antes de qualquer Hekate e Dioniso! – e o incrível que parece, com isto que acabei de escrever – este nem é o triângulo amoroso do livro.)
Ainda que o que se mantém da mitologia grega neste livro sejam os nomes (e poucas outras referências), eu adorei o livro. Bem escrito – tal como tinha já sido o anterior – uma estória cativante, interessante e envolvente. Porque acima de tudo, o que interessa é como a estória se desenvolve e não o facto de estar próximo, igual ou diferente daquilo que lhe deu a mote.

This book suffered from my sudden lack of reading time. Although, I couldn’t stop thinking about it even when I wasn’t reading it.
We can say Persephone's Orchard is a retelling of Persephone’s kidnap – which I loved the way the author choose the author choose the little details from the mythology and built a romantic, genuine and sensible narrative.
However, that’s not what happens in Underworld's Daughter, the second instalment of The Chrysomelia Storie series, since little mythology gets in it, but Molly Ringles managed to create a captivating, interesting, and full of magic type of story; we are glued to her words.
I have a special relationship with Dionysos, and who knows me knows why, and I thought it was really fascinating the way the author linked Adonis to Dionysos, but I didn’t like Tabitha – Dionysos’ soul in the present. She grew up at the end, and it seemed she’s going to become a good immortal, but in general she was a disappointment, and it saddened me. In contrast, I loved Zoe aka Hekate – it confuses me the way this character goes so different from the mythology, though; and still does, to be honest. I just hope to see the three-faced Hekate in the future, but I don’t know. Doubtlessly, Hekate is my favourite character from this book; I just loved all the moments dedicated to her. (And between us, no one is listening, Hekate+Herme before Hekate+Dionysos!! – and this is not even the real love triangle!)
Even if, what remains from the mythology is, basically, the names (and a few small references), I loved this book. It’s well written – as the first one; it’s a captivating, interesting and gripping story. Because what matter, above all, it’s how the story is told and developed, and it’s not the fact if is close, or not, from where the idea was born.

Opinião:
Estou verdadeiramente surpreendida com este filme, The Intern. Não é que seja uma masterpiece, mas acabou por ser melhor do que esperava. Uma comédia leve, com momentos engraçados, mas também pontuada por momentos mais dramáticos que nos faz ver com outros olhos certos momentos da vida. Peca pelo final incrivelmente precipitado.
Tantas vezes que a geração mais nova dá por garantida a sua “sabedoria”, todos achamos que somos uns sabichões e não queremos ouvir de ninguém, mas a verdade é que há pessoas com mais experiência e com um olhar mais capaz do que nós. Temos que saber ouvir os conselhos que nos dão e melhorar a partir daí.
A relação paternal criada por Ben (Robert DeNiro) e Jules (Anna Hathaway) é extraordinária. Achei que existia uma química muito boa e encaixavam muito bem. Ben tornou-se na figura paterna pela qual Jules foi aprendendo e crescendo, não só profissionalmente como pessoalmente.
The Intern mostrou-se ser um filme leve e entreteve-me, que só por si é um ponto bastante positivo. Podia ser melhor? Sim, talvez, mas também não se espera muito mais do que aquilo que é.

Review:
I’m truly surprised by this movie, The Intern. It’s not a masterpiece, but it ended up being better than I thought. It’s a light comedy with funny moments, but also a few dramatic ones that make us look at some moments in life with a new set of eyes. Its rushed ending is the major flaw I can think right now.
This young generation takes for granted our own wisdom – or lack of it; we think we are “know-it-alls”, and we don’t take into consideration the opinions of people that are older and more experienced than us. We must learn to listen and grow up using the wisdom that is given to us.
The paternal relationship between Ben (Robert DeNiro) and Jules (Anna Hathaway) was extraordinary. I think there was some kind of chemistry and they fit together perfectly. Ben became the paternal figure to whom Jules sought help, and learned to improve herself not only professionally, but also personally.
The Intern proved to be a light movie, and it entertained me for a while – which it a positive point in its favour. Could it be better? Yes, but we couldn’t ask for more, because it delivered what it was suppose to.

Assim que li a sinopse desta graphic novel, esta entrou automaticamente para a minha lista “I WANT TO READ IT IMMEDIATELY”. E foi o que aconteceu.
O conceito é extraordinário. Numa sociedade obcecada pela beleza exterior e se surgisse uma doença sexualmente transmissível, que fizesse o seu portador se tornar em algo exuberantemente belo? Sem gorduras, sem celulite, sem acne, sem cicatrizes, sem malformações, sem… you name it! E é isso que acontece em The Beauty, onde as pessoas procuram ser infectadas por esta doença e tornarem-se belas. O que elas não sabem é que há efeitos secundários a longo prazo.
Se este tema não era o suficiente, entra aqui também todos os negócios sujos das industrias farmacêuticas e a ânsia de ganhar dinheiro com a “dor” dos outros. AberCorp faz de tudo para erradicar aqueles que procuram uma cura para The Beauty (como ficou conhecida a doença), pois quer ter lucro com a proliferação desta, uma vez que criou o medicamento perfeito para prolongar a vida dos portadores de The Beauty, mas sem os curar. Ou seja, estas pessoas ficariam dependentes deste fármaco para sobreviverem ou… *KABOOM* - literalmente.
Esta graphic novel tem o conceito perfeito e uma arte ao mesmo nível. Texto e arte fundem-se perfeitamente para criar uma estória aterradora cheia de gore e consciencialização, ao mesmo tempo que faz uma crítica poderosíssima à actual sociedade.

Right after reading the synopsis of this graphic novel, I had to add it to my “I WANT TO READ IT IMMEDIATELY” list. And it was what happened.
The concept is extraordinary. In a society obsessed by exterior beauty, what if a sexually transmitted disease appeared and was able to transform its carrier into something extremely beautiful? No fat, no cellulite, no acne, no scars, no malformations no…. you name it! That’s what happens in The Beauty, in which people want to be infected by this disease, so they can be beautiful. But what they don’t know it has consequences.
Even if this theme wasn’t enough, we have also highly present the evil business of the pharmaceutical industries, which tries to profit from the “pain” of others. AberCorp does everything to eradicate those who try to find a cure for The Beauty (the name of this disease), once they want to profit with the proliferation of this disease, since they have the perfect drug to extend the life of the infected, without curing them. In other words, these people would become dependent of AberCorp to survive, ever since they would need the drug or… *KABOOM* - literally.
This graphic novel has a perfect concept with the art at the same level. Text and art merge to create a scary story full of gore and conscience, criticising the society of nowadays at the same time.

Opinião:
Tenho gostado desta série – do segundo mais que do primeiro e, novamente, do segundo mais que do que este terceiro.
Temple sempre me atraiu pela razão de ser um dos sócios do clube d’O Anjo Caído que, por escolha própria, lutava num ringue. Certamente que alguns dos homens mais ricos de Londres poderiam contractar os seus próprios pugilistas. E porquê o nome Temple (templo)? Era algo misterioso – não tão misterioso como Chase, mas isso é outra história.
Temple foi desgraçado há 12 anos, quando foi acusado da morte de Mara Lowe, a mulher que ia casar com o seu pai. É por causa dela que Temple tem a vida que tem – o bom e o mau. Chamam-lhe o Duque Assassino.
Mara não foi das minhas personagens favoritas – sim, geria um orfanato e adorava as crianças e a Lavender (a porquinha de estimação) mas não gostei particularmente das suas atitudes. O Temple não era um homem mau, nunca deixaria crianças passar fome, como se vê pelas suas atitudes desde o início.
Ela foi…quase cruel com ele, ela que devia pedir desculpas pelo que fez no passado, não teve a coragem de ficar e pedir desculpas, fugia sempre…até ao final.
A história em si está bem pensada e, como já nos habituámos nos livros anteriores, rápida e interessante, mas tem alguns pontos que não fazem muito sentido. Apesar de tudo, foi uma leitura agradável, com uma escrita fácil. Mesmo com personagens que deixavam algo a desejar, gostei do livro. E estou ansiosa por ler a história de Chase – as expectativas são altas, espero não me desiludir.

Review:
I’ve liked reading this series – I liked the second one more than the first one, and now I still like the second one more than the third one.
Temple has always attracted me because, being one of the partners of the The Fallen Angel, London's most notorious and coveted gaming hell, he chose to fight every night. Certainly some of the richest men in London could have hired a few boxers. And why the name Temple? He was mysterious – not as much as Chase, but that’s another story.
Temple was ruined 12 years ago, when he was accused of killing Mara Lowe, the woman that was supposed to marry his father. It’s because of her that Temple has the life that he has – the good and the bad. He’s called the Killer Duke.
Mara not one of my favourite characters – yes, she runs an orphanage, and she loved the children and Lavender (the piglet), but I did not like her attitudes. Temple was not a bad man, he would never leave children go hungry, and you know that right from the start.
She was…almost cruel, she’s the one who should apologize for what she had done all those years ago. She didn’t have the guts to say she’s sorry, she just ran away, always…until the very end of the book.
The story has a good plot, and as we have gotten used from the previous books, it has a fast pace and it’s interesting, even though there are some plot holes. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant reading. Even with characters that I didn’t quite like, I still enjoyed the book. And, most importantly, I look forward to read the one about Chase – I have high expectations, I hope I won’t be disappointed.
